Ganesh Puja

Remembering the remover of obstacles before an auspicious work.

When On the day of a sankalp, on chaturthi, or the morning of a new work.

A Ganesh puja is the straightest household rite: a lamp, durva grass, a modak or laddoo, and a short sankalp. Ganesh comes first at a wedding, a house-entering, vidyarambha, and the start of work. The public festival of Bhadrapada is another occasion. This page is the everyday puja at home.

Children learn it easily. If a house abroad cannot find durva, a clean blade of grass and water are enough. A missing ingredient is not a missing faith.

This is a general introduction. Sequence, materials, and timing change with family, region, and shakha. Your priest and your own custom have the last word.
