Pilgrimage
Kashi
The city on the Ganga where Shiva and the rite of death both live.
Kashi is not a checklist of darshan. A bath in the Ganga, Vishwanath, the evening aarti at Dashashwamedh, and the ordinary life of the lanes all run together. Manikarnika and Harishchandra ghat do not hide death. A pilgrim should stay quiet, and should not push a camera into grief.
A morning bath and the evening aarti are the two steady points. Plan rest and a boat if elders are with you. Getting lost is part of Kashi. Keep a map, but do not turn every turn into a schedule.
This is a general introduction. Sequence, materials, and timing change with family, region, and shakha. Your priest and your own custom have the last word.
