Samavartana

Returning home from study: the rite of a graduate.

When When a stage of study is complete.

Samavartana is the day a student turns from the teacher toward household life. A bath, fresh clothes, and blessings are its simple form. In the old gurukula it was a farewell. A university degree and this rite can stand side by side.

The mood is gratitude — to those who taught, and to the house that made study possible. Before marriage, it reminds the family that learning has not closed.

This is a general introduction. Sequence, materials, and timing change with family, region, and shakha. Your priest and your own custom have the last word.
